WHO WAS ALEXANDER THE GREAT

Alexander III of Macedonia (20/21 July 356 BC - 10 June 323 BC), commonly known as Alexander the Great or Alexander the Great (in classical Greek: Ἀλέξανδρος ὁ Μέγας; transl .: Aléxandros ho Mégas), was king (basileu) of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia and a member of the argéada dynasty. Born in Pela in 356 B.C., the young prince succeeded his father, King Philip II, on the throne at the age of twenty. He spent most of his years in power in an unprecedented series of military campaigns across Asia and northeast Africa. Until the age of thirty, he had created one of the greatest empires of the ancient world, stretching from Greece to Egypt and northwest India. He died undefeated in battles and is considered one of the most successful military commanders in history. During his youth, Alexander was guided by the philosopher Aristotle until he was 16 years old. After Philip was murdered in 336 BC, Alexander succeeded his father on the throne and inherited a strong kingdom and an experienced army. He had been awarded the generalate of Greece and used that authority to launch his father's panhellen project leading the Greeks to conquer Persia.
