Aries (Brazilian Portuguese) or Carneiro (European Portuguese) (♈) is the first astrological sign of the zodiac, located between Pisces and Taurus and associated with the constellation Aries. Its symbol is a ram. It forms with Leo and Sagittarius the triplicity of the signs of Fire. It is also one of the four cardinals, along with Cancer / Crab, Libra / Libra and Capricorn. With slight variations in dates depending on the year, Aryans / Sheep are people born between March 21 and April 20. When stars of lesser brightness, visible to the naked eye, are included, the constellation area looks like the head of a ram, having a general herbivore head shape and a spiral horn.
According to Higino, a Roman author from the time of Augustus, the constellation was believed to be the ram that carried Frixo and Hele through the Helesponto. This ram had gold hair, and was sacrificed to Jupiter when Frixus arrived at King Eetes' court. The image of the ram was placed between the constellations by Nubes, and marks the time of year when the grain should be sown, because Ino had sown the wet grain ahead of time, which caused Frixo and Hele to flee. According to Eratosthenes, the ram himself had removed the golden fur and given it to Frixo, and then went on his own to the stars. Higino also presents two other versions for the Aries myth.
